Where to start with these so called blackhead removal masks, it's the new beauty hack that's taking the viral world by storm (you can't see right now but I'm pulling a very angry face) I'm not a dermatologist but I do know about the skin and I do know these masks are a definite NO, I have had endless conversation with clients regarding these and often get asked "do they work?" And "what do you think about them?" Well I can say right now "NO I do not recommend and yes they will make your skin feel smooth straight after but the damage they leave is really not worth it. What these masks do! There are two types of this mask going crazy on facebook, Instagram and Youtube, the DIY ones and the brought over the net cheap ones, These DIY masks are made with charcoal powder and glue…yes why on gods earth would you put glue on those beautiful faces? and they are also being sold all over the Internet by unregulated beauty companies on ebay, amazon etc and as a lot of these masks are produced in other countries they DO NOT go through the strict process of UK ingredients regulation. What's in these masks? The DIY masks have Activated charcoal and glue, Activated charcoal does have health benefits in medicine because of its ability to fight toxins, but the peel may make users more susceptible to toxins because the glue removes the top layer of skin and clogs pores which yes you got it, Blocked Pores causes spots. So here's the damage 1. They Literally rip the surface layer of skin off, including the protective cells that our skin needs 2. As for all those "blackheads" it pulls out a majority of these are oils, sebaceous filaments and are actually needed by the skin to ensure healthy skin balance. Blocked pores (blackheads/comedones) are entirely different to sebum lined pores. 3. This charcoal and glue mixture could actually clog pores, leading to blemishes and sensitive skin can reaction causing irritation.

I have just read a great article by By Martha Cliff for MailOnline 10:41 06 Mar 2017, updated 13:27 06 Mar 2017 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4285526/Could-charcoal-face-masks-DAMAGE-good.html The advice given by Facialist Andy Millward and backed up by Dr Yannis Alexandrides of 111 Harley Street is hopefully enough to put anyone off buying these masks. My conclusion is simple, do not buy them and do not make your own, a good skincare regime is essential to achieving a flawless complexion and it doesn't have to break the bank, a couple of products that are tailored to your specific requirements are all that's needed, but if your not going to take my advice then please make sure you do not use any abrasive skin care products immediately before or after the charcoal mask. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED All my love
