If you are willing to invest the time into a skin care system, this could be just what you are looking for.

Master the basics Many of you will know that I am a qualified make-up artist and that make-up was the course I did first before beauty and is the reason I decided to carry on with my studies in the direction of beauty/skin health, this is because being a makeup artist I often get asked questions on why an individual's makeup ends up blotchy, flakey, shiny etc.....the secret to perfect makeup is perfect skin, now I know we can't all have magazine looking complexion but please bare In mind nether do some of the models I've worked on during my make-up artistry course, the photos are simply airbrushed, let's face it, there's only so much I can do with even the best makeup products, I have no magic wand or magical powers, so I've put together a basic skin care routine which is simple, quick and something everyone can follow on a daily bases, morning and evening, which will ensure a life long pimple/oil/flakey/sensitised, spot free complexion. To prepare a smooth canvas for your makeup, always start off with clean, moisturized skin. You'll find that your makeup glides on and blends more easily. 1. Keep your skin free of buildup by using a gentle cleanser in the morning and at night. Being a makeup artist I've found using a dermalogica cleanser which is prescribed for your skin type the best, (unsure of your skin type? I have put some more information regarding skin types at the bottom of this page and I will also do a blog on this subject at a further date) there are 9 types of cleaner in the dermalogica range: •Special cleansing gel-for all skin types. •Dermal clay cleanser-oily skin. •Essential cleansing solution-dry or prematurely ageing skin. •Ultracalming cleanser-sensitized skin. •Skin resurfacing cleanser-this is from the age smart range for mature or prematurely ageing skin. •Tri-active cleanser-for uneven skin tone. •Clearing skin wash-from there medibac clearing range, for breakout prone skin. •Blackhead clearing pore control-perfect for teenage/young skin, from there clear start range. •breakout clearing foaming wash-for teenage skin from there clear start range. Ask a dermalogica expert to map your skin and advice you on the best one that suits you. When cleansing your face, do so gently, do not tug, pull or scrub too hard to prevent irritation. 2. Freshen up your skin with a toner containing ingredients that suit your skin type such as dermalogica's: •multi-active toner-for all skin types. •ultracalming mist-for sensitized skin. •Antioxidant hydramist-for mature or prematurely aging skin. •breakout clearing all over toner-ideal for teenage skin from clear start collection. 3. Next Indulge your skin and keep it hydrated with a moisturizer that is compatible with your skin type. Massaging your skin as you apply moisturizer will improve circulation giving you an instant glow. Dermalogica have 6 moisturizers in there range: •Active moist-normal to oily skin. •Oil control lotion-from the medibac range for breakout prone skin. •Skin smoothing cream-for dry or prematurely ageing skin. •Intensive moisture balance-ideal for dry to ultra dry skin, also prematurely ageing skin. •breakout clearing daytime treatment-best for teenage skin. •Oil clearing matte moisturiser-best for teenage skin. The difference between skin smoothing and intensive moist is the strength. The key to looking younger is hydration, you want the skin to be extra moist and plump to disguise wrinkles and combat creasing when you apply your make-up, using a moisturizer that is too strong for your skin will just result in a oily shine and spots. Make sure your daytime moisturizer contains SPF to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. 4. Treat yourself to an at-home-facial 1 or 2 times a week, use your recommend dermalogica cleanser, then exfoliate with a gentle scrub to wash away lingering dead skin, I only recommend exfoliation twice a week as skin can become irritated resulting in red blotchy skin, Dermalogica do a range of 6 exfoliants: •Gentle cream exfoliant-ideal for all skin types, except environmentally sensitized. •Skin prep scrub-skin with excess oil production. •Daily microfoliant-for all skin types and as it says on the bottle this exfoliant is gentle enough to be used on a daily bases. •Daily resurfacer-prematurely ageing skin. •Multivitamin thermafoliant-heat activated scrub ideal for mature or premature ageing skin. •Powerfoliant-hyperpigmented skin and uneven skin tones. 5. Apply the facial mask after exfoliating, first wet a hand towel and place in the microwave for a couple of minutes till fairly hot but not so hot it burns, place on your face for 3 minutes or until cool to help open pores. Recommended masks from dermalogica: •Skin hydrating mask-all skin types. •Skin refining mask-acne prone and oily skin conditions. •Multivitamin power recover mask-for dry, mature or prematurely ageing skin. •Sebum clearing mask-from the medibac range, ideal for breakout prone skin. •ultracalming relief mask-sensitised, reactive skin and recently resurfaced skin. •Breakout clearing cooling mask-from the dermalogica clear start range, best for teenage skin. Rinse off thoroughly and get a good night's sleep! Steps 1,2 and 3 should be carried out daily, twice a day, morning and night. Steps 4 and 5 should be done once or twice a week unless your told 3 by a skin care specialist. I know a lot of people think dermalogica is an expensive brand to invest in and as you can see from my list there is a huge range of products (there are loads more) but with dermalogica a small amount really does go along way, you should be using only half the amount of product per wash then you would with other, cheaper brands, Meaning it will last twice as long and will work twice as good, and you don't have to use 5 or 6 different products to get amazing results, as little as using 2 products will make a huge difference. Taking 1 or 2 extra steps in your skin regime can make a huge difference. Skin types: •Normal •Combination •Dry •Oily •Sensitive Skin condition: •Dehydrated-tight and flaky •Sensitised-localised redness •Ageing-lines and wrinkles •Pigmentation-Darker patches •Congestion-blackheads and milia •Breakouts-inflamed pustules
